Things people want to know (FAQs)

Sunday Morning Service – 10am @ Edenthorpe Community Centre, Cedric Road, Edenthorpe, DN3 2HZ

Visiting a church for the first time can be a little scary, so here are some things you might like to know about Life Church

How long is the service and what should I wear?

The service lasts about an hour and a half. We start at 10am and are normally finished by 11:30am. After that we have a time where you can stay for tea and coffee and to get to know others if you would like. Refreshments are free! There is no dress code, you can wear what you feel comfortable in.

Is the building accessible?

There is a disabled parking bay right outside the entrance and a ramp to enable wheelchair users to enter. We have words for our songs on two large TV screens. Please do speak to us if there is anything else we can do to help make the service accessible for you.

Where can I park and how do I get there?

We meet at Edenthorpe Community Centre, located on Cedric Road. It is just off Thorne Road (the main road through Edenthorpe). We usually put out a display board on the main road to help you spot Cedric Road, and there is a banner and flag on the railings at the Community Centre which is on the left. You can walk or drive to the community centre. Many of the main bus routes stop on Thorne Road. We have a free car park. When it is full please park considerately on roads nearby.

What happens with my children?

We run GIG (Growing in God), a special group for children during the service. All ages stay together for the first half an hour and then the children go to the side room where they enjoy games, teaching and activities to help them learn and grow in their faith. All of our volunteers working with children are DBS checked. We also have a space on the far side of the main hall with toys and books suitable for children under 5 who would rather stay in the service with you.

What if I’m not sure what I believe?

You are in good company! We love it when people come with their own questions about life and faith. If you are searching and thinking then you are definitely welcome, and feel free to ask questions about what we do in the service and why.

Will there be an offering I have to take part in?

No. We have an offering basket at the back of church where you are welcome to leave a donation. Many of our regular church members give by standing order to support our work. If and when you are wanting to donate, then speak to one of our team and we can tell you how. There is no pressure to give, especially if you are a visitor.

What actually happens in our Sunday Service…

Arrive

You park in our free car park or arrive via Cedric Road and someone will welcome you at the door. You can go through to the main hall and find a seat – no seats are allocated and everyone is friendly so say hello!

You can check out the welcome table by the entrance to the hall where you will find information about our groups and current events.

Worship

Our service starts at 10am with a welcome. Usually we then sing around 3-4 songs together, led by our worship band. After that notices and prayer requests for the week might be shared, and the children can go out to GIG (Growing in God – our children’s provision). We will then hear a 30-40 minute Bible-based talk from one of our leaders, ending with a final song. Every other week we also share communion together in an informal way, and sometimes there will be an opportunity to respond or receive prayer.

Connect

After the service our tea and coffee area is open, and we’d love for you to stay and chat with us. Refreshments are free and we always have Yorkshire Tea* on hand and a biscuit!

*other brands of tea may be available!
